Dior 3D Long-Wear Brow Contour Kit

image

I have been using Too Faced for all of my eyebrow needs for the last year. I especially like their Brow Envy Kit for lining and Bulletproof Brows for filling in any spots that need it. I have officially hit pan on the Brow Envy set and if I may be honest- it has definitely seen better days.

Since Sephora was running their VIB promotion I scooped up this new Brow Kit from Dior. I also considered the Clarins Eyebrow Kit but since the one from Dior was brand new, I let novelty get the better of me. I never thought I would be a Dior makeup user but everything I have tried from the brand just works with my skin type/complexion, also the packaging is always beautiful.

This kit comes in a really nice silver mirrored compact. The set is offered in two shades brown and blonde ( I chose brown) and includes 2 brow powders (for mixing the perfect shade), waterproof wax, a spoolie, and 2 beveled brushes.

image

The powder shades are actually quite nice and aren’t too red or too ash leaning ( a problem I usually have with eyebrow products). The wax is pretty standard. Traveling with this kit will be a breeze and it is compact enough not to take up space in my makeup drawer. My only complaint about this kit is that there are no tweezers! I can remove a brush and put in a pair of my own tweezers but I hate when brands don’t include a very important part of a set (also if we are being picky here- the set could have benefited from a nice brow bone highlighter).

Other than those gripes this a really nice set!

Buy This Set: Tarte

For Spring,  Tarte released some Ulta exclusive makeup items in the range Double Duty Beauty. This Tarte Double Duty Discovery Set ($36) offered 3 full size products and one deluxe sample of Tarte Lights,Camera, Action. I love that mascara and I thought the blush/bronzer compact was gorgeous so I cashed in my 20 % off coupon.

This set is a fantastic deal and offers $99 worth of makeup which includes a Colored Clay Bronzer Blush in Pink Bronze, The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Gloss in VIP (cool nude) , The Eye Architect Liner & Shadow in Copper/Champagne and a Deluxe size Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara & Lash Fibers . I wasn’t sure about the eye shadow stick but figured why not try it?

The blush has such a beautiful leaf patter on the powder. It gives a very natural sunny looking peach flush to your cheeks

The shadow/eyeliner is a really great color combo. The shadow is a creamy champagne  which is great for the lid and applies easily. The liner is also a really nice color although it drags a little in application (my only complaint).

The lipstick/gloss was a really pleasant surprise. I love the neutral “everyday” color. It is incredibly comfortable to wear. I actually forgot that I was wearing it. The gloss is also really comfortable and goes great with the lipstick (this is a big complement from me as I am not a gloss person).

Im saving the mascara for when I run out of my current tube.  I technically can’t report back on it yet. I do love Tarte’s mascara formulas so I expect this will be the same.

Milani Everyday Eyes Palette in Plum Basics

image.jpeg

CVS knows what they are doing with their coupons. They got me back into their makeup aisle by sending me a $3 off of $15 coupon as well as some extra bucks.

I used these coupons as an opportunity to buy another Milani Everyday Eyes palette . I almost bought the neutrals palette but then decided that I have too many neutral tone shadows already. So I went a little outside the box and bought the Plum Basics palette.

image.jpeg

I really appreciate  the packaging  on these palettes. They are nice looking and feel sturdy. For such an inexpensive item, Milani did not cheap out on the packaging.  I also like that Milani has even taken care to include steps for a dramatic eye look on the back of the case.

image

I really enjoy all of the colors Milani chose for this palette. Included are a base shade in a very light beige matte which is great for all over the lid. A dark taupe matte contour shade that can be used with the base shade for a neutral look. A really pretty ballet pink shimmer shade (my favorite) that would look good on the lid. A deep purple crease shade with a satin finish . A dark champagne shimmer highlight shade : this is the only one that I had an issues with. It has big chunks of glitter but can be smoothed out with some work. Lastly , is the the liner shade is a plum shimmer shade that would also look great foiled.

All the shades are silky and are pretty easy to work with. These shadows are not powdery at all which is an issue I often have with drugstore shadows. They also had very good wear times. You could do quite a few two shadow looks and also some great smoky options. It’s a very versatile palette and the Everyday Eyes collection is my favorite release from the drug store.

Get Stoned

You know how you see those older women out about about, covered in chunky gemstone jewelry, beautiful silvery hair, and you can just tell that they feel fabulous? I’m starting to realize that the older I get this is my aspiration. I’m beginning to amass a collection of stones and gems and wear them all at once, willing those fabulous old ladies to nod in my general direction.

It’s hard to put my finger on exactly what it is. I’ve always loved beautifully colored things, especially those that occur in the natural world. Maybe I’m becoming more new-aged than I even realize! Several years ago one of my best friends started gifting me small items with rose quartz, and I fell in love. It’s a beautiful stone anyway, and it’s known for being the stone of the heart, and carrying all of the properties of love and feminine instinct. “Divine loving energy” is what is said to surround it. Now I don’t know if that’s true, maybe it’s just the fact that I love the person who gave it to me and I carry her wonderful, loving vibes with me everywhere I go. It’s different for all of us. I do have a soft spot and preference for the antique and the vintage, to make them feel loved again. There’s something much more special about a piece with history. I feel like I’m doing my part by repurposing it.

I have always loved turquoise, but over the past year it has become much more of an obsession of mine, along with basically any other cool-looking stone (case and point the jasper cuff I acquired). Maybe I just love the stuff, and the way it makes me feel, or maybe I’m getting in touch with my inner earth-mother. Who knows! My collection continues to grow and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Give me your antique shops and I will scour them. Give me your eBay and Etsy stores and I will find all of your vintage Native American jewelry goods.

Another really cool part of wearing this kind of jewelry, is that there are so many small businesses out there now that make amazing one-of-a-kind pieces. For instance, the bumblebee jasper and silver cuff that I wear on my left wrist was made by a woman who runs Sage Silver Jewelry (you can follow them on Instagram and also see her website link here). It is one of my absolute favorites! Most of the other pieces I wear, namely the turquoise cuffs and all of the rings, are vintage finds. The thrill of the search is almost as great as the find for me. I’m still trying to convince my lady Sharon at my favorite antique shop to create a Frequent Turquoise Buyer’s card just for me…

It Cosmetics Your Bye Bye Breakthroughs Set

image

I have heard great things about the new IT cosmetics Bye Bye Makeup Cleansing Balm. I have been out of makeup remover for about 2 weeks (I just keep forgetting to buy some), so when I saw this Bye Bye Breakthroughs kit with a price of 59.99 I figured I could definitely try it out!

The kit came with some brand new products from IT cosmetics and the retail is well over $100 so the value is definitely there!

image

Also included in the kit was a new concealer release.  Their old  Bye Bye Undereye concealer was something I have wanted to try anyway so receiving this new Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Concealer almost made this kit worth it in itself for me (there is no price for this yet but retail will be probably be around $24).  I have tried the Eyelift in a Tube concealer and really liked it – so I was excited to see how this one shaped up. I was actually pretty surprised by how well this performs. It is an extremely pigmented concealer that covers very well.

image

image

I did find it a little too light for me so I will probably have to mix it with a darker concealer. It also has a dry texture that you have to make sure you warm with your fingers to help blend it out. A good eye cream helps as well. If you suffer from dark circles and the shade is right for you this is an excellent concealer.

image

image

Another new product introduced in this kit is the new Bye Bye Pores blush ( no price yet but will probably retail for $24). This blush promises to help combat large pores which is something I have been struggling with lately . I have noticed that some blushes draw attention to pores and can even highlight them. I need another blush like a hole in the head but this one is a lovely color pink and does all that is promised. It camouflaged my pores so I was really happy with it.

image

Bye Bye Pores pressed powder ($29) was the only  ‘not so new item’ included in the set and I have heard great things about it. The powder is very silky and comes in a translucent shade.

I’ve been looking for powder alternatives to the pricey Dior powder that I use and although I still prefer Dior to this, Bye Bye Pores is an excellent powder. It offers great coverage especially on my nose. It’s not drying at all and doesn’t look dry on your skin (an issue I sometimes have). I find it to be a  great setting powder.

image

Along with the powder came an absolutely beautiful domed powder brush ($48). I have often heard that IT cosmetics brushes were some of the nicest that you could find but I never wanted to shell out the retail price for one. I was happy to see a brush included in this set. It is really soft and has the perfect amount of density to the bristles for picking up powder.

image

Last but not least in this kit is the star- Bye Bye Makeup Cleansing Balm (this isn’t sold yet but I estimate the price to be probably around $30). This balm has a really nice consistency which leaves my skin feeling very supple. It removes everything and I mean everything -even mascara. No makeup residue what so ever and leaves your skin feeling great- that’s exactly what you want out of a cleanser. It has a citrus smell which I really like.
